Cimetière du Père-Lachaise (continued): #51: Pierre Halary

'PIERRE HALARY 1863 – 1935

J'AI FAIT CE QUE J'AI PU. TEL ÉTAIT MON DESTIN.
OH ! QUE N'AI-JE PLUS DES EXISTENCES ENCORE !
MAIS MA VIE A PASSÉ COMME PASSE UN MATIN,
ET MON SOIR VA CÉDER, AMIS, À VOTRE AURORE.

('I've done what I could. Such was my fate. Oh, if only I had more existences! But my life has passed as a morning passes, and – friends – my evening will yield to your dawn.')

There isn't a great deal of information about Pierre Halary readily available out there, although enough to tell me that he was born in Limoges and was a poet, translator and composer. A few of his (handwritten) poems are online, as are four of his compositions from the Bibliothèque de Limousin, linked here.
